If you listened to Death for a long time, you will easily spot that it sounds really close to Leprosy or Scream Bloody Gore. It’s simply the iconic sound profile of late 80s thrash! Yeah, it’s mush-ier, but it is what it is. The version from 2009 is definitely closer to Human if you know what I mean, however I don’t really enjoy it that much since in my opinion harsher, unpolished tone fits this album more than clarity. Another point on this album is that there’s a generous amount of clipping involved, which makes it perceptually mushier than it is, especially on the mids, I think it could be better if they did not add in too much compression (2009 is even worse in this regard, damn you, Loundness Wars).

The 2009 run has been my favorite since then. I believe the 08 digipak line was the same masterings, I was onto them then. It was the first time Human sounded powerful. Still sounds best to me.

I’ve always skipped this album though. I did finally get into ITP this year, though. It’s only been 20 years for me 😆

This album in particular is fairly consistent with every repressing and remaster, so that’s a win! I think my favorite is the 2009 or 2010, the guitars sound slightly different in certain parts of the same songs.

USA 90. It’s florida death metal, it’s supposed to be warm and damp. 2009 is too sharp, it’s got that remaster problem where it sounds like they’re forcing frequencies to pop out that don’t fit to modernize it.
