Excellent pod cast. I was diagnosed with inflammatory disease.PMR. Dreadfully painful.I didn’t respond to Prednisone nor disease modifying drugs. Just suffered horrendous side effects. I did my research and gave up my regular gin and tonics. It took time but this lifestyle change brought down the inflammation my body. Now I just have a Friday night single shot.
Thanks Liz. So helpful! I am doing 100 day AF challenge and 71 days in. I agree with your substitute drinks advice, though I find anything that’s pretending to be alcohol a bit triggering. I LOVE Mother Root with tonic, a slice of orange, sprig of rosemary and lots of ice. A grown up lovely drink that’s proudly AF. I only drink it when I would have had wine and it’s my go-to treat. Will try Sentia. Keep up the great work.
Bet she hardly touched it anyway!!!!🙄🙄🙄
This post popped up and coincides with me having a break from Alcohol.
Probably the beginning of going tee total …
I have the APOE4 gene…the Alzheimer gene…having researched the impact of having this gene, alcohol is an absolute No no…so the decision has been easier.
I’m a healthy happy energised 65 year old with lots still to accomplish.
I Need my Brain!
And
I want to be as self sufficient as possible for as long as possible.
And
Like Liz ….have found lovely “grown up” alternatives for my crystal tumbler.
Loving Botivo!!!
Let’s keep going together towards a long healthy fulfilling future.🥳
Angostura bitters have alcohol in.
Hi Liz, yes i definitely think drinking heavily after 60 is not a good idea bearing in mind the body can’t process it so well then. I generally just drink at celebrations now, hardly ever in the house. Thank you as always for your wonderful advice.
Loved this
I gave up alcohol after some bloods tests threw up a slight issue last January (which resolved itself). Plan was to do it for 30 days and ended up being 6 months as I realised I don’t actually miss it (I’m 51). I have the odd G&T but find I get a hangover and groggy feeling now with drinking so little. Can get some excellent zero proseccos and wines now and most of the alcohol free lagers and Guinness taste the same so I never feel to be missing out. Love the tip about the healthy alternatives Liz too. Will check them out. 😊
I was diagnosed in May last year with Gastritis. I was really poorly and decided to hire a nutritional therapist for 3 months….she was wonderful and helped me so much. I completely changed my lifestyle and one of those changes was to give up alcohol. I’d never been a heavy drinker so it wasn’t tricky. I really feel that it has helped me in many ways. I have found that some people find it odd that I don’t drink alcohol but I have been strong and have stuck to my choice.
I gave up drinking every weekend in march this year. In summer I had the occasional corona but really just had the 0%. During a 2 week holiday I drank but nowhere near as much as I normally would on holiday. At a hen do recently I had 3 drinks the whole time & came away from it thinking it was pointless, I still had a great time! I feel much better not drinking & I have also lost 1.5 stone! Drink also means snacks = perimenopausal weight gain!
My husband has also knocked it all on the head & his mental health has been so much better for it!
There really is no positives to alcohol is there 🤷🏼♀️
