Ahhh. answer the last question please…
1:04.
Depends on who the teacher is. Some don’t take great pride; some do. Professionalism and dedication—same thing. Students’ well-being includes ensuring curriculum materials are set with care and mistakes are avoided. Yet, while some respond positively to feedback, others don’t.
2:20
If teachers are spending more time on professional development, shouldn’t we observe a positive outcome associated with it?
3:30
That the complexity of the teacher’s work has increased, is probably true.
3:55
“Equitable workload allocation”. Please let us know what you mean by equitable. Sometimes, beginning teachers are allocated as much, if not more, work than their more experienced colleagues. When this is raised to MOE, their feedback is deemed less reliable as they are “just beginning teachers”.
5:10
“Enhanced staffing support”. Here… Let me share an idea. Your schools now need language and content experts and HODs don’t necessarily fit the bill. If my children’s school experiences (and even mine, both as student and, later, teacher) are anything to go by, I’d say there is a great need for experts in schools and schools should be willing to engage them, even to coach HODs when necessary. These people can be the go-in-between for MOE curriculum teams, policy makers and the SEAB. Think about it. At least then, we will not consistently receive poorly conceived items in examinations, and numerous language errors even in English language papers. A single EL paper with a minimum of 7 errors seems to be the norm in primary schools from at least as far back as 2001.
6:00
Manpower services… These could include the experts I was suggesting. Better yet, make it a permanent fixture in (primary) schools. Those in HQ will have more meaningful work to do. (Secondary schools are mostly okay.)
6:07
“Van doors”? Who was your English teacher?
7:26
School-home partnership guideline to ensure teachers have no undue stress is a good move. After-school hours should be protected. Yet, the nature of the job is such that, if the teacher cares enough for the kids and they have the time and energy, they will naturally spend more time engaging parents and students. I did, when I was teaching back then. This shouldn’t be frowned upon.
8:20
WFH for teachers?! LOL. Since when? Find me a teacher who does not have class on any weekday.
10:55 – 11:20
Parent-teacher collaboration is what I have been trying to do with my children’s school. But it seems, some teachers are not as willing to engage. Teachers (including HODs) are very often NOT experts in the subject matter they are in charge of. So, something needs to be done. If a parent is willing to come in and help look through their curriculum materials to reduce errors and the parent happens to be an expert, the schools should accept this help and work with them by giving them the necessary platform for doing this! This is what good support from the public looks like. Let’s not pay lip service and get this going right.
12:15
I stopped here. I will continue later as time permits.
why are the 3 male MPs all wearing white shirts? a symbol of purity in whatever they do?
Minister Desmond Lee sound exactly like almost all bosses who tell you that they did everything within their abilities to assist you so that you don’t feel so burnout, which feed into high turnover rate. In short, MOE have not enough for the teachers on their workload, that led to burnout that end with high turnout.
Do your best, but never do enough, fail and never acknowledge your failure. This is the perfect living example of how our government function. Start acknowledging your failure, and do it right.
What if all the data’s that MOE capture are not accurate or useful? You at your first step, then you apply selective listening. Lastly, you believe that you have done enough. Desmond Lee is in his own echo chamber.
MOE teachers should go back to their unions and demand better work life balance and higher pay. If not, nationwide strike would take place.
Alot of these questions are bad. Filibustering and not moving the needle forward. I can mostly tell who never opened Parent’s Gateway before.
“there will be a time when the people will say, let’s try the other side.” – LKY
*Warning: my own opinion:
Lawrence Wong, 52, still has NO child and he is now living at an expensive air-conditioned bungalow or mansion with loo tze lui.
DON’T vote for the PAP.
Vote for other parties.
IMO data points are all they care about to determine the current state. No one seems to be interested in finding out what is really on the ground. Just shows how ‘off’ they are with whats real compared to surveys collected. sad state to be in and worse going forward/
Teachers must teach the children to respect the LKY laws made. Don’t repeat the incident years ago about hospital attire. In my country we respect the law and teachers need to do better. They become dedicated the laws LKY made
Will the school organise more school events and more CCA as there are more teachers in the schools if the schools are able to hire more teachers? It is better to have some guidelines for all schools , colleges and institutions the threshold in the number of maximum hours each teacher should not exceed in , especially in non-teaching activities.
