Hi Richard and Jackie! So true what you are saying, Richard! I’m really bad at downtime, which brought me to where I am… burnt out. But I’m trying to get out for a walk or do some gardening every day, which is kind of down time for me. I often work from home so that I can go for a walk midday. Have a nice weekend 😊.
Summer is here and time to use my Fat Boy in the garden. I am 100% sure off falling a sleep in that every time😂❤love your Channel. All the best from Denmark.
Totally relate to feeling guilty about slowing down / doing nothing. I’ll take a brew into the garden / outside the van, leave my tech inside and simply listen to the bird song.
Great reflective video, thanks
Thank you for the video and the reflections I had afterwards about my balance in life
Thank you. A mars a day came to mind while listening to that! I’m an early riser in general, about 5:30, so sometimes I’ll set Alexa and have a sleep in the afternoon if I’m tired. 09:30 mostly the fruit salad gets eaten and we sit and watch Boris and Carrie (Robins) and other birds through the conservatory window. Just watching them do their thing slows you down. They have their own language talking back and forth and it just takes you out of your head space for a bit.
If you get your lean to done, a full length picture window could work for quiet time and looking out for a bit. Works well for me but everyone’s different. Ah and the tele. Films but anything without too much tension 😬
I love doing jigsaws, or some crafting. I’m always amazed how much time passes unnoticed whilst my mind is in freeflow. It’s just so relaxing.
You feel guilty about stopping. I feel guilty about starting! Switching off for me, ironically, is most effective when I’m totally concentrating on something I enjoy, which is motorcycling, cycling and walking the dog.
I know I’m only six weeks into my early retirement but this is where I’m struggling. I’ve produced a list of so many projects 🤦🏻♂️ My eldest daughter has already commented ‘do you ever stop?’ 🥴 My wife retires in four months so I think that’s when I’ll be able to really work at this!! That said for me one of the best ways to switch off is to go for a long run. My mind just wanders. Paul Loomans in his book I’ve Git Time (Time Surfing) also advocates taking breathers in between tasks. He uses two small dishes, one with ten marbles in it at the beginning of the day. After each breather, move a marble to the other dish. A visual reminder of the breathers taken and still to be taken. An interesting idea but not one I’ve tried so far. Anyway another thought provoking video. Thanks again Richard. Slàinte! Ken
There is nothing more relaxing than walking the path thru our property. Once a day now, after retirement . . . maybe twice a day. 😊
I’m retiring in 8 weeks at 55 🎉. Currently working part time to ease myself in. I exercise in the mornings and I often, particularly in the winter opt for a long relaxing bubble bath over a quick shower. Bliss!
